Biography:
Dr Safaa Ahmed Azmy (صفاء أحمد عزمي ) was born in Egypt in 1961. She graduated from Cairo Dental School in 1984 and went on to practice dentistry in Egypt, England and Dubai. Her passion for writing children’s books started when she had her three children. Safaa started out writing short stories and poems to read to her children; these were eventually published as 47 books and 18 posters. She created her own publishing house under the name Wahat Alkehkayat.
Her graded reading series are aimed at children aged 6 to 12 years. She combines education and fun in stories and poems, with the aim of encouraging children to enjoy the beauty of the Arabic language.
She has participated in events such as Abu Dhabi Book Fair, Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival and the 2010 Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, by giving lectures and workshops to parents, teachers and librarians.
She also participated in children’s reading activities in cooperation with Emirates foundation, Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage Association and Family Development foundation, Abu Dhabi Municipality, and the Kitab Foundation.
In cooperation with Magrudy’s Education Centre Dr Safaa is giving workshops for teachers about preparing a reading program for primary school students.
She currently lives in Dubai with her family.
